So let’s start this dive before it becomes too long (the wait) and we get short of breath.
Long like the European Conger Eel (conger conger). Oh yes, the Mediterranean Sea is home to the giant European conger eel, which can grow up to 3 meters (10 feet) long and weigh over 100 kilograms (220 lbs).
The European conger eel is actually one of the largest species of eels on the planet and it is a formidable predator spanning throughout the whole Mediterranean Sea.

We now go from very long to very big!
The Mola Mola (ocean sunfish) is occasionally spotted also in the waters of the Mediterranean.
This beauty is the heaviest bony fish in the world, with some individuals weighing over 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs).
Despite their massive size, they are gentle creatures that feed mainly on jellyfish.
You see, even if it has a big scary body, the sunfish can hide a sweet soul.
So like you should not be too quick in judging a book by its cover, or a mola mola by its size, you should not jump to easy conclusions about people before knowing them well.

As we have begun this series of dives, we are now going to close our underwater tour with one of the most inspiring sea creatures in the world: the Mediterranean Octopus (octopus vulgaris).
The common Mediterranean octopus is incredibly intelligent and has the ability to solve puzzles, open jars and even escape from enclosures. They’re also known for their camouflage abilities, changing both the colour and texture of their skin to blend into their surroundings.
So many lesson to take from this almost alien-looking underwater being: from the urge to strengthen our brains so that we can be able to untangle ourselves from difficult situations that often occur in our lives, to the importance of never accept jailing of the spirit and always strive for freedom. Their ability to change colour and form and adapt to the surrounding environment is epic and can give us “food for thoughts” about how we can manage to adapt to our surrounding environment…discretely, peacefully while aligning with what surrounds us but always keeping our personality and character intact, protecting and celebrating our uniqueness.
The Mediterranean Sea is more than just a picturesque paradise—it’s a living tapestry, woven from the ancient rhythms of life that have thrived for millennia beneath its waves.
Here, every ripple carries the whispers of survival, where endangered monk seals seek refuge in hidden caves and loggerhead turtles make their epic return to the very shores where their lives began. In these depths, creatures of astonishing beauty and resilience carve out their existence in an ecosystem on the brink of change.
The Mediterranean Sea, though scarred by time and human hands, still pulses with the heartbeat of an underwater world that is as fragile as it is extraordinary. It is a sanctuary for life’s most remarkable adaptations, a place where intelligence, instinct and endurance collide in ways that leave us in awe of the mystery and majesty of the ocean’s ancient soul.
